Hello world, yet again!

I’m back! Sorta… It’s been more than a year since my last post and I can tell you, a lot has changed since I last wrote something on here. Given everything else that was going on in my life, the blog definitely felt less of a priority. Well for one, I officially completed my Masters in Geography at Ankara University, although I still don’t have a certificate to prove it yet. I really hope that the administration of the university will come through soon with that. I handed in my Master’s thesis at the end of July and successfully defended it in the beginning of August. Leaving the nest: Noorie relates

Noorie currently lives in Heidelberg, Germany, doing her doctorate focusing on stem cell biology at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), which I got to see when I was visiting her in Heidelberg. She’s definitely one of the people I admire the most and one of my dearest friends. She shares her experiences with us, as part of the Leaving the Nest series.

 

So, tell us a bit more about yourself? What have been up to since you left college?

I went to study at the University of Birmingham for four years, got a Masters in Biochemistry. Then I embarked onto my PhD in stem cell biology at the EMBL in Heidelberg, Germany.

What led you to study this particular subject?

I have always been fascinated by the natural sciences in general. The ultimate decision to study biochemistry was thanks to the scholarship that the UoB offered me to cover my tuition fees for the duration of my degree. Continue reading Leaving the nest: Noorie relates

Leaving the nest: Komal relates

12386726_10156313439935503_1270260469_nKomal moved to Melbourne almost immediately after graduating from high school to study Commerce and is currently working there at the moment. She took some time to share some of her thoughts with us, as part of our Leaving the Nest series.

So, tell us a bit more about yourself? What have been up to since you left college?

After HSC, I left within a couple of weeks of receiving results for Melbourne, Australia. I did an undergraduate degree in Commerce and started working in a Business Consulting straight out of university.

What led you to study this particular subject?

I had studied Sciences for my A-levels but chose the Commerce path at university because it was more in line with what I thought I wanted as a career. Continue reading Leaving the nest: Komal relates
